Love life

In 2012, he married Nthateng Lerata in a traditional ceremony. After a few years, however, the marriage was over. Edwin Sodi accused Nthateng Lerata of pilfering the R1 million he left in a safe at home when he travelled abroad. He was also accused of stealing some of his designer watches, including a Rolex, a Panerai, and Audemars Piguet.

In 2015, he was alleged to have ruined DJ Sbu’s relationship with Disebo Makatsa. The two were said to have been engaged until Sodi stepped in, flinging them asunder. Makatsa loudly denies Sodi was the reason for the breakup, though.

After the relationship with Makatsa flopped, he was said to have hooked up with social media influencer Refilwe Mabote, with social media denizens describing them as ideal for each other, given their well-documented tastes for luxury living.

Minnie Dlamini is rumoured to have cheated on estranged husband Quinton Jones with her alleged long-time lover and shady businessman, Edwin Sodi.

This came to light after a local Twitter user, Musa, alleged that Minnie " kept the spark with Sodi 'alive' during her marriage to Jones".

Causing quite the stir on the social front, it was also tweeted that Sodi funded her luxurious lifestyle and a recent trip to Dubai.

Meanwhile, Minnie Dlamini rejected allegations she had an affair with Edwin Sodi during her marriage with estranged husband Quinton Jones.

In a statement shared with TshisaLIVE, the former couple rubbished the reports, saying she would pursue legal action against “the relevant parties” who made the allegations.

Net worth & Career

According to Savanna News, Edwin has a net worth of over R300 million (which may actually be more because he also allegedly has a number of businesses and properties not registered on his name).

The businessman is in his early 50s and holds 42 directorships in several private companies linked to property, construction, and office supplies.

He is also the sole director sat Base Property Holdings which holds mortgage bonds valued at R40.5 million.

In 2020, IOL also reported that four vehicles registered in Edwin’s name were valued at over R10 million and included a Porsche, a Mercedes-Benz, a Rolls Royce, and a Bentley.

Trouble with the law

Also in 2020, the businessman had his assets frozen after he and six others were accused of conspiring to defraud the State of hundreds of millions through the controversial Free State asbestos project.

In March this year, he handed himself over to the police after he allegedly threatened his ex-wife and her male companion with a gun at their Sandton home. He was later released on bail.
